Katherine Jordan is a successful business leader, dedicated to her high-flying career. She is also an unapologetic romantic. In Stanley Richards, she thought she had found the man of her dreams.

She awakens instead to a nightmare. Tangled in hidden conspiracies, pursued relentlessly, Katherine's life becomes unrecognizable almost overnight.

And yet, in the midst of her struggles, unexpected help arrives … As new love blooms, Katherine Jordan renews her commitment to climb to new heights, to freedom.

Set in Washington, D.C., West Virginia and Colorado, Climbing to Freedom mixes contemporary romance with thrilling drama, suspense, and adventure. From the boardrooms of our nation’s capital to the cliffs of Harpers Ferry and beyond, Jasmine Winterson’s compelling novel of intrigue and passion is not to be missed.

I really like the story itself. The writing style was easy to read and flowed well. There were a couple of minor inconsistencies that could have been easily overlooked by the editors, such as a room number being cited as 37 and the woman found who she was looking for in room 39. There were a couple of other minor errors, but none of it was enough to detract from the story and I do tend to be somewhat of a stickler on these things, when I am reading.

The romance happened too quickly, in my opinion. I would give more details, but don't want to give away anything.

The crisis aspect of it was handled well, for the most part. The immediate crisis was resolved, but the overall conspiracy was not resolved in this book. It might be in the next. I wish there had been a warning to that effect. That is the main factor in the rating I chose.

I am big on giving others a head's up on content so here goes (this does not factor into my rating):
There were a few cuss words and the Lord's name was taken in vain. The book was not riddled with either.
There were three explicit sex scenes. I skipped over them.
There was no graphic depictions of violence.
There was one mention of God, other than the taking of his name in vain. This cannot be called religious by any stretch of the imagination.

Climbing to Freedom edition by Jasmine Winterson Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

A typical boy meets girl and they overcome the obstacles. A bit to formulaic for me.
After a short sabbatical, my favorite sleuth is back! Dev, always thinking with the wrong organ gets involved with another shady lady and the joyride to avoid his own stay in the pokey is on. His trusty sidekick Louie is there to assist but the twists and turns will literally cause Dev to literally CHILL out! For Dev Haskell fans it's a must read for newbies, prepare to get hooked on Mike Faricy's wicked sense of humor!
I was hunting Romance novels with rock climbing. Not sure why, but I enjoy the combination. I found this one! It was so much more than I expected! The story arc was wonderful. IT was not rushed or drawn out. Katherine and Ry have a wonderful story. Jackie is a awesome best friend. I look forward to reading the next installment of Ms. Winterson's work Roost, It is already on my phone.
Steamy, HEA, and adventure.
This story was cute enough, a romance with rock climbing aspects. It has the usual boy meets girl, butterflies in the belly, and the spurned ex in the background causing trouble, although in this case, the bitter ex is part of a much larger conspiracy.
A few minor things like missing or repeated words.

I was a little confused at times with the shifting points of view, it tended to hop around a little much, and the constant flash backs started to get old, as well as the constant repetition of "It was time". I got it the first two times, thank you, but I can forgive it all because of this one phrase. "Like an eagle in search of pretty." I'm fairly sure that was supposed to be an eagle in search of PREY, but that sentence caught me off guard and made me laugh so hard I almost fell out of my chair and completely made up for the rest of the book's shortcomings.

Overall, it was a decent, short read.
